The Kerkis Font Family

For Xwindows

This is the first release of the Kerkis Font Family for the Xwindows system. The fonts look good on the desktop, especially the Sans family (KerkisSans).

The distribution uses the Type1 format.

In order to use the polytonic glyphs in word processors check this link.

Download

Get Kerkis for XWindows from here: Kerkis_for_X11.zip.

Installation

Quick per user installation: Copy the pfb and afm files in the user's home folder named .fonts/
(notice the dot!). Run fc-cache in a terminal or wait 30 seconds. The fonts should appear in the font menus.

System-wide installation:  Unzip the archive in /usr/share/fonts/type1, run fc-cache as root and then modify the configuration of your xfs to read the directory /usr/share/fonts/type1/Kerkis-X11 by editing the file /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fs/config

Finally restart xfs (for example on a modern Linux system use /etc/rc.d/init.d/xfs restart).

The fonts will be available to newly started applications. For a test, start (or restart) OpenOffice.

Usage suggestions

We suggest KerkisCal for the Desktop, KerkisSans-Bold for the title bar of windows and KerkisSans for all other needs (menu bars, inside windows etc, and KDM too).
